Congratulations Jason Davis!

During the Toastmasters Area 21 Speech contest in Lubbock yesterday, Jason Davis represented Toasters Club in both the Table Topics and International Speech contests.

Jason won first place in the Table Topics contest by answering the question, "If I gave you $1000 and you had to spend it today, how would you spend it?"

In the International Speech contest, Jason won 2nd place with his speech "What's My Purpose." During this inspirational speech, Jason related a personal story and challenged the audience to find their purpose in life.

Jason now moves on to the Division E Contest which will take place in Midland, TX, in March.

Word of the Day "camaraderie".

Three reasons why camaraderie is important in the working environment.

1. When you walk into your work environment  and feel good about the people you work with gives you a sense of excitement. You'll bring energy and enthusiasm to the work your doing.

2. It improves the ability to work as a team. When your work members genuinely like each other, their work on team based projects improves. Communication levels are high and the whole process is more pleasant when your working with people you have a connection with.

3. It boost employee retention rates. People who feel more connected at work are more likely to stick around longer.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Topics Master!

The Topicsmaster delivers the Table Topics portion of the meeting, which helps train members to quickly organize and express their thoughts in an impromptu setting. This morning Keith Waters delivered a great presentation on the theme of the day "The French Connection" and asked questions regarding the theme in an impromptu setting that challenged our speakers. Great Job Keith!

The Word of the Day is What?

Mike Bates and the word of the day.
With a theme of Jogging, Topics Master Mike Bates selected the word fartlek as the word of the day.

From Wikipedia:
Fartlek, which means "speed play" in Swedish, is a training method that blends continuous training with interval training.[1] Fartlek runs are a very simple form of a long distance run. Fartlek training “is simply defined as periods of fast running intermixed with periods of slower running."

It was hard not to laugh every time the word was used in Table Topics. And it was used frequently today.
