A Pin, A Kiss, and a New President

Tracy, Lisa, and Jan
With the first meeting of the new year comes a new club president. Tracy Thomason opened his first Toasters Toastmasters club meeting as president today.   As a bonus, his wife Lisa, who recently joined the club, gave her Ice Breaker speech, "A Toastmaster's Wife," today. Tracy and outgoing President Jan d'Orsay gave her a membership pin when she completed the speech.

Tracy also gave her a kiss.  Jan did not.

Eddie Retires

A Toastmaster for over 20 years and a member of Toasters Toastmasters club here in Lubbock for over half of that, Eddie Payne recently announced that he'd be retiring from his job at X-Fab.  To fulfill his and his wife's plans for the future, Eddie is also retiring from Toasters club.

Toasters threw a party for Eddie today and honored him with an engraved clock.

We'll miss you, Eddie, and we hope you wake up early once in a while and come and visit us!

Tornado Sirens and Raising Twins

Not these twins, though.
While these topics don't necessarily go together (unless you've raised twins and then you might think the siren would come in handy), they were the topic of two informative and entertaining speeches at Toasters Toastmasters Club in Lubbock, TX, today.

Member Gary Johnson received his name badge today for completing his Competent Communicator manual.  We're looking forward to your Advanced Manual speeches, Gary!

Toasters also enjoyed a visit from our incoming Area Governor, Uwe Beltz. While not his official visit, Uwe stopped by to say hello and remind the club about the upcoming Toastmasters Leadership Institute happening on June 21st.  There's more information about that on the Toastmasters In Lubbock website.
Coming soon?

Farewell to Sam!

Sam gives a speech evaluation during
his last meeting at Toasters.
This morning Toasters bid Sam Musoke a fond farewell during his last meeting with the club.  A long time member, Sam came to Lubbock from Africa and now finds himself in the enviable position of moving to Hawaii for work.

Per Toasters tradition, we celebrated his new job and last meeting with a pot luck breakfast.

We'll miss you Sam!

Homemade SPAM Musubi
