That's right, read it and weep. Our friend and long time Toasters member leveraged his Toastmasters skills into a better job and is now moving to Memphis, Tennessee, to be the Associate Dean of Students at the University of Memphis.

Good luck, Ryan! We'll miss you!

Lubbock Pro Club Hosts Area 61/62 Contests

The Lubbock Professional Toastmasters club will be hosting the Spring 2015 contests for Area 61 and 62 on March 7, 2015, at 8:00 am. The briefings will begin at 8 and the contests will begin at 8:30am.

The Lubbock Professional Club meets in the University Room at Green Lawn Church of Christ. See the maps below for details on how to get there.

Viva Elvis!

Toasters Toastmasters club in Lubbock, Texas, celebrated Elvis' 80th birthday today with the meeting theme "Viva Las Vegas!"

Tracy Thomason, the Toastmaster for the meeting, dressed up as as Elvis from his Aloha From Hawaii concert.

Both Tracy and the Table Topics Master, Kim Davis, played Elvis songs from their phones to spice up the meeting.

Happy birthday, Elvis! We're all shook up from celebrating!

Breakin' The Ice In One of Three Languages

Toasters Toastmasters' newest member, Ruth Kimani, broke the ice today by delivering her first speech during a club meeting. A nurse from Africa who now lives in Lubbock, Ruth understands the importance of communication and is working to further improve her skills by attending club meetings in Lubbock, Texas.

After her speech, President and Toastmaster of the Day, Gary Johnson presented Ruth with her membership pin.

Pins and Badges and Ramps, Oh My

Lubbock Toasters had a big meeting today with an Ice Breaker speech, a practice speech that will be delivered to a government agency, a Competent Communication badge awarded, and a full house including two visitors.

Dustin McEwen, one of our newest members, kicked off the morning by delivering his Ice Breaker presentation, "Establishing Roots," where he discussed his early life that included a lot of moving. After the speech, Dustin's Toastmaster mentor and our club president, Gary Johnson, gave Dustin his membership pin.

Gary then rehearsed a speech that he will be delivering to a local government agency on behalf of his volunteer work through TexasRamps.org and AMBUCS.

At the end of the meeting, Lisa Thomason was awarded her Competent Communication badge by her Toastmaster mentor, Cindy Ford. Lisa completed her 10th speech in the Competent Communication and the club purchased her first name badge for her.
